The UVNSW project was set up through funding from the Caring for Our Country Program, an Australian Government initiative. Its goal is to achieve an environment that is healthier, better protected, well managed, resilient and provides essential ecosystem services in a changing climate.

Funding is administered through the Hunter Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority. The authority is supporting local communities to better understand and manage the mid-north coastal region of NSW's natural resources.

The framework of the UVNSW website was built by Ruben Hillier from CommunitySites and is kindly supported by Almatech. Ruben went well beyond the brief expected of him. He has a passion for the marine environment and this passion was evident in the evolutionary process the website has undergone.

The project relied upon the input of many individuals.

Thanks must be extended to the staff at the coastal CMAs who provided advice throughout the project, in particular Hayley Leczkowski and Tina Clemens. Their diligence ensured that the project kept on track to meet its targets.

Many thanks are also extended to NSW Marine Parks Authority staff. Jackie Corlass, Dr. Hamish Malcolm, Dave Harasti, Ian Kerr, Dr. Melinda Coleman and Dr. Nathan Knott all provided valuable input through the steering committee process and during informal discussions. The NSW Parks and Wildlife Service gave permission to adapt the map of NSW indicating the location of of marine parks and UVGs.

Various marine scientists were also consulted regarding the composition of the fish list. They include Dr. Daniel Bucher, Dr. Hamish Malcolm, Dave Harasti, Professor Dave Booth, Dr. Belinda Curley and Professor Bill Gladstone. The final fish list is a distillation of the suggestions proposed by this group. They are all incredibly busy professionals and we are indebted to them for giving their time.

Thanks also to those members of UVGs who volunteered to participate on the steering committe. Andrew Green, Colin Piper, Dave Arthur, Dave Thomas, Ian Shaw, Isabelle Stachan, Jennifer Loder, Jenny Robb, Lyn Cleary, Margo Smith, Michael Match, Steve Green, Steve White, Tom Davis and Zan Hammerton.

The administrative and operational staff at the National Marine Science Centre (Southern Cross University) provided the logistical support to enable the day-to-day development and conduct of the project. Informal discussions with colleagues from the NMSC have also provided useful input.
